Featured Resident of the Month Willard Hartz

We're proud to recognize Willard Luvern Hartz as our September Resident of the Month. Willard's kindness, creativity, and genuine friendship have made him a beloved member of our community, and we're honored to share a little about his remarkable life. 

Willard has called Traditions at Brookside home for more than two years, choosing our community to be closer to his family. Originally born in Cavalier, ND, he later grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida, where many of his life's adventures began.

Family has always been at the center of Willard's life. He was married to Ella Mae Hartz for 53 years. Together they raised two children: a son who lives in Kansas City, Kansas, and a daughter who lives in Indianapolis. 

Before retiring in 1988, Willard worked as a dispatcher for a semi-trucking company. Outside of work, he developed a passion for craftsmanship, creating beautiful hand-carved and stained wooden bowls.  

When he's not reading books, or enjoying a game with friends, you'll often find Willard sharing conversation and laughter with those around him. His favorite meal is breakfast, and one of the highlights of his day is spending time in the courtyard during the evening, chatting with friends and feeding the birds. 

Willard also loves the ocean. He was an avid sailor, once owning many sailboats and loves cruising. He is always willing to lend a helping hand to others whenever he can. His caring nature, positive attitude, and welcoming spirit have made a lasting impression on residents and team members alike.
